Thor & Mjölnir

1 2 3

Mjöllnir is the name of Thor’s hammer… Yep, the Vikings loved giving names to objects, especially weapons. And if you don’t know Thor yet? Let me introduce you to this tall blond guy. Marvel and their movies really gave Thor a huge popularity boost and his hammer Mjöllnir. In Norse mythology, Thor is the God of Thunder, like, he can create or stop storms on command… honestly, the guy is badass.

According to Scandinavian texts, Thor is the most powerful of warriors, and that’s also why he is one of the most revered Gods in Scandinavian countries. Otherwise, Thor is simply the son of Odin (the boss of the Aesir Gods) and Jörd, a goddess of the Earth. With such parents, the little guy was bound to become a legend. And that’s not all, since Thor is Odin’s son, he is also the legitimate heir to the throne of Asgard. If I’m talking so much about Thor and not just his hammer… it’s because the two are inseparable. But there’s a lot to say about the hammer anyway… so here we go:

The creation of Thor’s hammer: Mjöllnir

Loki, the God of trickery (the guy is super sneaky) had played a trick on Thor again… And it made him a bit angry. So anyway, Loki went to the dwarves to fix his mistake… and since he’s one heck of a prankster, he took the opportunity to troll the dwarves. You know, our dwarf friends do have a bit of an ego. So Loki challenged them (betting his head, yes, that’s right) that the dwarves couldn’t create precious weapons.

So naturally… the dwarves only want one thing… to make a super well-made weapon. They get to work. But do you really think Loki, God of trickery, won’t try something? Well, he does! The guy transforms into a fly (yes, he is polymorphic) and goes to bother the dwarf who was forging Mjöllnir, Thor’s hammer. The dwarf is disoriented but continues forging the hammer as best he can…

In the end? Mjöllnir is born, but its handle is a bit shorter than expected because of Loki’s prank! And by the way, if you pay attention in the movies with Thor, you can see that the hammer’s head is really disproportionate compared to its handle… well, that’s where it comes from. Finally, the dwarves take the hammer Mjöllnir to Asgard where they give it to Thor while declaring that the God of Thunder could strike anything without EVER damaging this hammer. In short, the dream weapon for a warrior God as powerful as Thor. Fascinating, right? And you haven’t even seen the best yet.

The theft of Mjöllnir from Thor

This story is, how shall I say… special and funny at the same time. Thor was peacefully napping with his hammer next to him… so far so good. But when he wakes up and looks around… No hammer! So he looks under his bed… in the bathroom, and in the laundry basket… but nothing, impossible to find Mjöllnir. Desperate, he asks Loki and the goddess Freyja for help… both agree.

And they discover that it’s the giant king Thrym (a big guy who’s a bit angry) who boasts about having stolen Thor’s hammer… But the giant is nice, he’s willing to return the hammer. On one condition… That the goddess Freyja agrees to marry him.

Of course, Freyja refuses. And that’s where it gets funny. To get his hammer Mjöllnir back, Thor disguises himself as a bride and Loki as a servant So you might say they’re going to get caught… especially Thor, a tall muscular man… Well, no! It goes smoothly and they’re even invited to the buffet. What happens next? Thor takes back his hammer and takes the opportunity to kill the giant and his entire family… Rule #1: Don’t mess with Thor and his hammer.

The heirs of Mjöllnir

When the time of Ragnarök comes (it’s the end of the world for the Vikings)... Thor will kill and be killed by the world serpent Jörmungand. And after the chaos that will strike the 9 worlds… there will be a renewal. And it is at this moment that Thor’s sons Modi and Magni will inherit their father’s hammer. All this is described in chapter 5 of the Gylfaginning. Now that you know all about the fascinating story of Mjöllnir… you probably want to get a Viking piece of jewelry with the famous Thor’s hammer engraved on it… Well here I’m going to present to you 3 Mjöllnir models from our collection… so let’s go.

The 3 Mjöllnir models

Mjöllnir is Thor’s companion and he never lets it go. We want it to be the same for you and the jewelry you choose. We want it to accompany you everywhere and for you to be proud to wear it… so here I’m going to present 3 models featuring the Mjöllnir symbol.

The legendary Viking necklace – symbol of Thor – Fenrir wolf

A Viking necklace with a design that doesn’t go unnoticed. With this model, we have Thor’s hammer as a pendant… and if you have a keen eye, you’ll see that the pendant is held by two wolf heads. Well, these heads belong to Fenrir, the enraged wolf and, incidentally, the creation of Loki the God of Trickery. What’s cool about this necklace? It’s made of 316L stainless steel… What does that mean? It means the necklace is super mega durable… like, it won’t rust and won’t tarnish over time. Kind of like Thor’s hammer in the end! Alright, I’ll show you two more necklaces:

The incredible Viking king necklace – symbol of Thor’s power – dragon symbol

Clearly this necklace is not for everyone… It’s impressive and with it you’ll get noticed, believe me… so you’ll have to own having all eyes on you! Here too you find the pendant with the Mjöllnir symbol, this pendant is held by two dragon heads. And by the way, it’s also made of stainless steel… so it can accompany you everywhere and for a long time. What I also love about this model… is that it comes in a beautiful wooden box. Okay, that might seem secondary. But clearly, you look so classy when you store your Viking king necklace in a box that looks awesome. Now, I’ll quickly present you one last model.

A classic, the Viking necklace – Thor’s hammer – stainless steel

A necklace with a pendant in the likeness of Mjöllnir. This necklace has a modern, classy, and minimalist design. You can also choose the chain length, which is pretty cool depending on your build. And just like the previous necklace… it’s made of stainless steel and is delivered directly to your home in a beautiful little wooden box.

To finish…

You got it… Mjöllnir is much more than a war weapon for Thor, otherwise he wouldn’t have disguised himself as a woman to get it back. For Thor, it’s an invaluable companion on his journey. And we want the Viking necklace you order today to be, too, an invaluable companion on your journey. So choose the model you like and order it, we will deliver it directly to your home as soon as possible!
