A golden horse named Gullfaxi capable of riding on land, in the sky, and in the sea while having the power to visit two worlds.
As you know, Norse mythology speaks of many legends, deities, and creatures of all kinds. We often present the most well-known, but today we want to dedicate an article to the horse with the golden mane, Gullfaxi.

The Race Against Sleipnir
Originally, Gullfaxi was the mount of Hrungnir, who is a frost giant, often described as the strongest of his kind. You can already imagine the poor back of Gullfaxi carrying a giant, but we are talking about a magical horse, so no worries! Hrungnir is a rival of Odin like most frost giants; relations are tense.

Odin, the god of gods, also has a horse named Sleipnir. It is the fastest horse of the 9 worlds, a magical creature who turns out to be a child of Loki following a very funny story that we leave for you to discover yourself. Sleipnir’s peculiarity, beyond his ability to travel through the 9 worlds and to fly, is that he has 8 legs.
Our story begins during a conversation between Hrungnir and the god Odin; indeed, Hrungnir claims that his horse Gullfaxi is faster than Sleipnir. This claim made Odin laugh, who then challenged Hrungnir to a race. As you can guess, Gullfaxi could not catch up with Sleipnir.
This race took Hrungnir all the way to the palace of Asgard. Despite his disappointment, he agreed to feast with Odin and have a few drinks. This was the end of the giant, as Thor killed him… Let’s not forget we are talking about a frost giant, damn it!
Afterwards, Thor gave the golden horse Gullfaxi to his son Magni, who had bravely fought the giant alongside his father.
Now, let’s discover a bit more about the powers of the horse with the golden mane.
The Powers of Gullfaxi
Gullfaxi is originally a giant’s mount, so you can get an idea of his size, which is actually the first notable characteristic of the horse. It is said that he runs as fast on land as on the sea or in the sky, an incredible speed that almost equals that of Odin’s horse Sleipnir.
He has the power to travel only between two worlds, the realm of Jötunheimr and Asgard. Unlike Odin’s horse, who can travel through the nine worlds.
However, Gullfaxi is described as a magnificent mount; indeed, his golden color makes him shine and transforms him into a well of light. According to some descriptions, a rainbow sometimes appears behind him when he runs in the sky.
Now you know this legendary horse, Gullfaxi, who will remain the mount of Magni until the end of Norse mythology as far as we know.
