Here is the Viking runic talisman!
We wished to use 316L steel for the manufacture of this necklace, an alloy mixing iron and carbon, to guarantee a solidity and a durability in the time.
For practical reasons, it seemed to us essential that this necklace can go in water, no worries at this level, 316L steel is stainless, no corrosion is possible.
Of course, no problem of skin or allergy. We took care to use a hypoallergenic material, with a low nickel content, to avoid unpleasant surprises.
The helmet of terror (ægishjálmr) and a Vegivisr on the other side
This necklace has two very powerful Viking symbols on each side of the medallion!The helmet of terror or fear (in Old Norse Ægishjálmr) is a Norse divine symbol of protection and victory. Several sagas (including Galdrabók) mention that it was used not only by Viking warriors but also by dragons (which seems hard to believe, no?!). Nevertheless, Volsunga says that Sigurd took it after killing the dragon Fafnir.
Vegvisir derives its name from the combination of the Icelandic words vegur (road or path) and visir, the closest translation of which in this context is "guide". Its most basic meaning is that of a road sign or guide. From this we can deduce the meaning of vegvisir - the runic compass.
