Valknut: Odin's Army
Hilda Ellis Davidson is responsible for this interpretation. According to her, this symbol is the "liberation of the human spirit offered to certain warriors to join Odin's army for Ragnarok". This connection was made thanks to the symbols found on funeral urns in Anglo-Saxon cemeteries, with representations of wolves and ravens (very much linked to Odin).
The most striking example is the Stora Hammar stone. On this stone, we find the Valknut in the beak of a bird, which certainly represents a valkyrie coming to fetch a warrior. The theory continues with the man below holding a spear, the symbol of Odin. The scene described on the stone would thus represent the access to Valhalla for a warrior who died in battle.
Valknut and Yggdrasil
There is a theory that the Valknut represents the tree of life Yggdrasil. Yggdrasil, also known as the Cosmic Ash, is the equivalent of the universe in modern culture. This giant tree is the bearer of the nine worlds of Norse mythology (all the same).
To return to the Valknut, each of its nine points represents one of the nine worlds. As with Yggdrasil, there are also three levels of height, on which the nine worlds can be easily placed.
In this interpretation, the Valknut would then have meanings such as:
** Growth - balance - stability - insight - regeneration - birth - connection with the living and the Earth**
The dragon, this legendary animal is very symbolic for the Vikings. We made a bracelet out of it: the Dragon Bracelet. Maybeyou will like it too!
