In which movies has Thor appeared?

THOR, A CHARACTER PRESENT IN MANY FILMS

Thor, the famous god of Norse mythology, valiant warrior, protector of Asgard, and wielder of the powerful hammer Mjolnir. Indeed, considering all the roles he plays, it's no surprise to see him appear in so many films. So we've decided to make a list of films and series in which he appears. We want to warn you first:

• These are films that were sometimes made solely to introduce an inspiring character, so the stories may not exactly reflect the tales of Norse mythology.
• We'll summarize all these films for you, but we promise, no spoilers! Feel free to tell us which ones you've already seen.

THE FAMOUS THOR TRILOGY

You couldn't talk about Thor without mentioning Marvel's trilogy (soon to be a quadrilogy). It's probably thanks to them that this god of thunder has become such an iconic character in the eyes of the general public!

As mentioned earlier, beware the purists among you: if you venture into these films, you will surely find inconsistencies with the true tales of Norse mythology. You can’t blame them; it’s thanks to them that our favorite god became so well known.

Now that you have the main info, let’s move on to the summary (guaranteed spoiler-free). This is the first film of the quadrilogy; to set the scene, we’ll start at the beginning (so far so good). It starts in 965, the giants decide to invade Earth using the chest of the ancient winters (a huge source of power). Odin arrives with his army of gods and manages to repel all the giants back to their world, and takes the opportunity to retrieve the chest. During this battle, he lost his eye as well as many Asgardians.

Several centuries later, a ceremony takes place during which Thor is supposed to inherit the throne from his father, Odin. That is without counting on the arrival of the giants who are there to retrieve the powerful chest; they fail but Thor’s ego takes over, and he decides, accompanied by a few friends, to go fight the giants in their world to make them pay. The battle was complicated, and it is ultimately Odin who comes to save them all after forbidding them to go.

Disappointed by his son’s behavior, Odin decides to strip his son of his powers and exile him to Earth, where he meets Jane. To return to Asgard, he will have to prove enough dignity in this new world.

Centuries ago, Bor, Odin’s father, fought relentlessly against the dark elves, major enemies of the Asgardians. The dark elves fought using a source of immense power: the Ether. The Asgardians thought they had rid themselves of this threat: the Ether had been hidden in Asgard for years.

At the time the film takes place, Loki has been sentenced to life imprisonment because of the crimes committed on Earth in the Avengers film. Meanwhile, Thor is still on his quest to pacify the 9 realms. However, an event is approaching: the 9 realms will be aligned a few days later, which will create portals between each realm.

It is Jane, Thor’s friend, who accidentally stumbles upon a portal and ends up being propelled into a new world where she will be possessed by the Ether. Heimdall, a god who can watch over the 9 worlds simultaneously, warns Thor that he can no longer see her and that this is worrying. Thor leaps to Earth, finds Jane, and brings her back to Asgard.

Malekith, king of the dark elves, is awakened by the power of the Ether that lies dormant in Jane and attacks Asgard with his army; it is Thor and his friends who will take on the task of repelling him.

We are once again plunged into the universe of the 9 worlds where we see Thor, imprisoned in Muspelheim. During his imprisonment, he talks with his executioner: Surtur, who reveals to him that Asgard is defenseless since Thor's father, Odin, left it. Thor, furious, manages to free himself, taking Surtur's crown with him.

Returning to Asgard, he realizes that everything has indeed changed. Heimdall has been replaced by Skurge while Asgard is ruled by Loki. Thor takes his brother to Earth, where, with the help of Doctor Strange, they search for Odin. He is found in Norway, in an abandoned retirement home.

Odin will reveal to them that his time is near, but that his death would be catastrophic for the Asgardians. His death would indeed lead to the release of Thor and Loki's older sister: Hela, goddess of hell, who also wishes to access the throne of Asgard.

It is precisely during the absence of the two gods that Hela takes advantage to go to Asgard and devastate everything in her path, killing one by one the warriors opposing her. Thor and Loki must therefore fight a merciless battle against their sister to prevent their world from being destroyed.

The 4th film in this Thor universe series, at the time of writing this article, the film has not yet been released and we have little information about it, but we will still try to summarize everything for you right here.

The director, Taika Waititi, announced that this latest film will be inspired by the Thor comics (Mighty Thor). We will see Jane, the woman Thor met on Earth, take on Thor's appearance, thus creating the female version of the thunder goddess.

A clue had been left to us: at Comic-Con (a comic book festival), the actress appeared with Mjolnir, Thor's famous hammer.

We know, it's short, but it's all we have, and since we're nice, we still found you a teaser, grab your popcorn!

Almighty Thor (meaning Thor the all-powerful) is a mockbuster (that is, a low-budget film aiming to copy a big-budget film) of Thor. It shows the god Loki destroying the fortress of Valhalla to steal Thor’s hammer. Thor must therefore fight a merciless battle against his brother so that he does not cause Ragnarök and destroy the tree of life.

Eric, a young American-Norwegian man, loses consciousness in a Norwegian forest. Upon waking, and after having to steal some medicine to survive, he is provoked by a group of teenagers. Suddenly, powers come to him and he accidentally kills one of them.

He is questioned by the police and immediately cooperates with them, confessing his crime and explaining that his powers are uncontrollable. He is therefore sedated and extradited to America. Upon waking in the helicopter, it crashes. Eric takes the opportunity to escape and finds help from a sheriff in a small town. After explaining his problem, the sheriff quickly makes the connection with Norse mythology and suspects that his powers resemble those of Thor.

THOR AND THE LEGENDS OF VALHALLA (animated)

This animated film recounts the adventure of a young blacksmith named Thor, living in a small village and leading a peaceful life. An old legend says he is the son of Odin. All the villagers believed they were safe from the giants, thinking they would never attack a village where Odin's son resides.

However, it is Hel, the goddess of the underworld, who one morning attacks Thor's village accompanied by giants. Thor then decides to go save his friends with the help of his hammer, the "crusher hammer," a magical weapon.

VIC THE VIKING 2: THOR'S HAMMER

This is the logical sequel to Vic the Viking; we only want to talk about the second one because the first does not mention Thor.

Halvar, Vic's father, wishes to see his son become a brave warrior like him, but his young age prevents it, until the day the tribe leader is kidnapped by Sven the Terrible. It is then up to Vic to become the tribe's representative. Vic takes his men on a mission to free his father and retrieve Thor's hammer.

To prevent the blood eclipse, Thor must open the gates of Valhalla. To do this, he must gather three magical objects: his hammer located in Valhalla, the Mary Magdalene necklace which is in Midgard, and Odin’s horn which is in Helheim.

Thor will therefore, accompanied by his Viking army, set out to conquer magical objects in order to save the world.

This series, recently produced by Netflix, tells the story of a young man, Magne, who moves to a new town in Norway: Edda. This town has been controlled for generations by the Jutul family, who made their fortune in the oil industry.

At his new school, Magne will meet Isolde, who is committed to showing the general public the devastating environmental actions that the Jutul family is implementing to control this town. Magne will take sides and join Isolde in her fight. Meanwhile, he discovers that his strength, vision, and athletic abilities have greatly increased, breaking all world records in just a few days.

During his adventure, Magne will realize that he can also control thunder and that his rival family also possesses superhuman powers…
